The Flakiest Pie Crust Ever

Updated: Sep 25, 2023

Grandma never told you her secret pie crust recipe? Not to worry, this recipe is just as amazing if not BETTER than her recipe! This pie crust is super easy to make, ultra-flaky, and works with just about any pie recipe!!! Is your mouth watering already? Craving a pie? Wanna make your Grandma jealous? Let's get cooking!!

part of a slice of pie with golden brown crust, raspberries, and mint leaves
ultra-flaky crust for almost any baking purpose!

Ingredients:

-2 cups all-purpose flour

-2 tbsp granulated sugar

-1/2 cup cold butter (salted or unsalted, your choice.)

-1 pinch salt

-3 to 5 tbsp ice water

Directions:

  1. In a large mixing bowl, combine sugar, flour, and salt. Cut in the butter. (I used a biscuit cutter for the ultra-perfect crust. However, if you do not have one, you can use a cheese grater to grate the butter into the bowl. Or, chop into tiny pieces with a knife and use your hands to combine.)

  2. Once the mix starts to stick together and the butter is worked in, make a well in the center of the mix. add 2 tbsp ice water to start. Knead to combine. Continue adding more ice water until you have a rough dough forming.

  3. Knead for 30-45 seconds, or until it can stay together and feels like cookie dough. Pat out into a 1/2 inch disk and cover with plastic wrap.

  4. Refrigerate for 4-12 hours, or overnight. Pair with any pie recipe you'd like, and bake at the specified time and temperature. Enjoy your freshly-baked pie!!!

Helpful tips and tricks:

-flour your work surface

-do not over-knead dough

-make sure butter always stays cold

-always follow directions to the best of your ability

-do not add all the water at once

-be patient, the perfect pie takes time!

-enjoy the pie you create!!!

- Freeze for up to 7 months, or keep in the fridge for up to 8 days!
