Best Apple Donuts -No Yeast or Proof Time!

Updated: Sep 25, 2023

Making apple donuts may seem like a daunting task; however, these donuts will take no more than an hour to make! These apple donuts are always a big hit when I have served them to my friends, family, and even at parties. Donuts are commonly a breakfast or brunch food, but these donuts will taste good any time of day. They are just the right amount of sweetness and have partial natural sugar due to the applesauce in the recipe! Let's get cooking!

Notes:

  • Before you start, this recipe requires special equipment- a donut-maker. For me, I have a baby-cakes -donut -maker that I actually won in a white-elephant! If you don't have a donut-maker, you can also use a cake-pop maker.

  • Storage: Freeze for up to 6 months, store at room temperature or in the fridge for up to 8 days in an airtight container.

  • Be careful not to over-mix your batter, otherwise it will deflate all the airiness of the donuts!

  • If you're looking for a more spiced donut, add 1/2 tsp cinnamon and 1/4 tsp cloves!

Ingredients:

- 1/3 cup softened butter

-1/2 cup + 2 tbsp brown sugar

-1/4 cup + 2 tbsp white sugar

-2 large eggs

-1 1/4 cup no-added-sugar- applesauce

- 2 cups flour

-1 3/4 tsp baking powder

-1 tsp baking soda

-1 tsp cinnamon

-1 large pinch of salt

For the Glaze:

-2 cups powdered sugar

-1/3 cup lukewarm water(add more if glaze is too thick)

-1/2 tsp vanilla

-1 tbsp maple syrup (optional)

Directions:

1) Prepare the batter: beat together butter, brown sugar, white sugar. Add in eggs, salt, and applesauce- beat until well-combined.

2) sift together flour, baking powder, and baking soda- mix into wet ingredients until you have a smooth batter.

3) Prepare your donut maker

4)Begin frying the donuts in your donut maker. ( The babycakes one that I have has six cavities, I have found that this recipe usually makes around 26 donuts.) Fry each donut batch for around 6 minutes, or until a toothpick comes out clean when inserted in.

5) While your batches are cooking, make the glaze. Combine the powdered sugar, water, vanilla, and maple syrup. Stir very well until glaze has no lumps.

6) once all the donuts are done, pour the glaze over them. Wait until glaze is set.

7) Enjoy your apple donuts!

I hope you all enjoy this recipe as much as my friends and family have! These are perfect for any breakfast, brunch, snack, or dessert! I love to make these any time of year, but especially in the fall when apples are in season! The secret to perfecting this recipe was finding the right amount of applesauce. It's funny how one ingredient can really make or break the dish! If you liked this recipe, subscribe via email down below to get notified when I post new recipes!
